Lately, I have come across an abundance of benches.
…petite benches…
…zierlichen Bänken…
…benches fashioned of various materials and in different shapes…
…benches holding little surprises…
…Bänken mit kleinen Überraschungen…
…painted benches…
…bemalten Bänken…
…benches with views, with thoughtful exhortations, with artistic touches…
….Bänken mit Aussichten, mit wohlgemeinten Ermahnungen, mit künstlerischen Werken…
…many of them with plaques, to commemorate a loved one, no longer among the living. As different as their sizes, shapes, and shades, they all have something in common: They are empty. I hardly ever see someone resting on them. We are creatures always on the go, always with a mission, never with enough time to sit and seize the moment. Which is why this last bench, seen at a cemetery, spoke to me so much. While we still can, we should “sit and stay a spell.”

One of these days, I promise! 😊
Liebe Grüße,
Tanja

Benches remind us to sit and just BE. When we open our minds, our eyes, our ears, the beauty of the world can more easily rush in to flood our senses. We are of nature, not on top of it. Beautiful post. I love the painted loveseats!

….and the “REST, ENJOY, APPRECIATE” spoke to me! I’ll remember that inscription, and maybe engrave it on an old wooden bench on top of a mountain nearby. The bench was built long ago when there were yet no roads in the area, and people had to climb a stony path up and down that mountain on the way to the country store to get their groceries. A relic of a life long forgotten.
Lovely picts of so many different and stylish benches. 🙂

Thank you, Meggie. That inscription also resonated with me. It graces a stone bench on top of a mesa that can only be reached after hiking for a few miles, so that many people will never have the opportunity to reach it and enjoy the view.
Thank you for sitting with me for a while.
Best wishes,
Tanja

Thank you, Mitza. I also find the Chinese proverb beautiful. Until I started to pay attention, I had had no idea of the variety of benches. Now I notice them everywhere.

Point me to them. I will sit on them for a long time. I have no problem appreciating such inviting spots!

I am glad you feel that way, Cathy. First you have to buy an airline ticket. Once you are in Colorado, I will take you to them, and we can sit on every single one. 😊

Dear Tanja,

Tanja

A wonderful series of such stylish, inviting benches, Tanja. I, for one, do use them! Not only to rest the body, but to “stop, look & listen”. It is then that a person will really see and admire their surroundings. Thank you for sharing this inspiring post for us all to take a seat with nature, even if just for a moment.
