This is a view I have seen—and photographed—countless times, to my husband’s neverending amusement. He only grins when I show him yet another snapshot, taken from the deck of the Nature Center in Fountain Creek Regional Park, one of my local favorite haunts. I justify my repeated images with the argument that each hour, each day, each month has its own charms, and that the scenery is in a state of constant flux.
One day not long ago I am again enjoying this familiar outlook when I notice an addition to the canvas. Do you see what I see? To my utter delight, I witness how this White-tailed Deer doe-and-fawn-duo stride slowly through the shallow water, where they take an occasional bite out of the aquatic plants. They never venture far apart and gently nose and nudge one another.
In a season rich with birth and babies in the animal kingdom, I relish this serene moment, this tender instance of motherhood, as well as the confirmation that no two experiences are ever quite identical, in this or any other location (which is a good reason to keep taking photos 😊).

Tanja

They are so precious! Aww. The scenery is stunning too. I can imagine why you keep taking its photo. It’s like me taking photos of the same places in Prague every time I visit hehe. Have a good day, Tanja.

Thank you, Pooja. I felt very lucky that day and really enjoyed observing those graceful deer.
I envy your Prague experience-I have yet to make it there!

You are absolutely right. I need to review my archives, as I have photographed this scene during all seasons and times of day. Maybe there is a future post in the making. 😊

Just so you know, the Nature Conservancy’s director of science in Nebraska has been involved with what he calls his “square meter project,” photographing the same square meter of prairie repeatedly, just to see what changes occur. No matter the scale, the prairie or Pike’s Peak, what you say is true: every day is different, and there’s no way to predict what another day will bring.

Thank you for your comment.
It’s so true, nothing is ever the same on two occasions. It’s quite fascinating, really. I have photographed the same scene monthly, but should concentrate on a smaller area and pay close attention daily. I think I would be amazed!

Morning, Tanja. Does your husband like to take photos, or does he leave that to you? Have a real good day!

Hi Neil,
He used to take photos with his conventional camera, but never made the leap to digital technology, so now he has to look at the gazillion images I take. 🙂

I’ve had the same discussion with my wife numerous times over the years. The answer to “Haven’t you already done that?” is “Not at this time, in this light, under these conditions, with the me that I am now.”

Which is also why we take photos of the same bird or flower over and over, isn’t it, Steve? We never took one on that day, at that time, with that kind of lighting, in this kind of mood … 😊

Man sagt, die besten Bilder entstehen an Orten, die man sehr gut kennt, die man häufig besucht. Da ist viel dran. Und wenn man sich immer wieder von Vertrautem überraschen lassen kann, was will man mehr? 😊

I thought of you yesterday afternoon when I was kayaking with my son. We’d found an undeveloped lake (MIRacle!!!) and were soaking up the peace when we spotted two deer emerge from the cattails and wade into the water. One of them was a 4 point buck. I was surprised to see antlers this early in the season…I thought they emerged in August/September.

Like you, I take photos of the same scene throughout the seasons and find it surprising how much they change – light, colour, tonal range, subject and plant/tree life 🙂

Wonderful sighting and captures, Tanja! I agree with you, a ‘scene’ we see/photograph often has unique changes daily; sometimes noticeable, sometimes not. It’s up to us to look and find them. And when we do, we get awesome surprises! 🙂 And, yes too, my husband gets never-ending amusement out of my ‘same’ shots over and over. Maybe even an eye-roll or two! 😉

I think you must be the champion of repeat images, Donna. Your osprey nest is likely among the most photographed motif.
Thank goodness you are not bothered by that occasional eye-roll, or two. 😊

What a serene and beautiful view to let the mind rest in, Tanja. I also take lots of pictures of the view I have just off my porch, the lake with the forest and the blue mountains in the background. A view that is always the same, but is still constant ly changing.
From the various cloud formations reflecting in the gloassy water, or when hard winds whip up foaming waves. Or when the loons and kayaks quietly glide through the water where the tranquility is suddenly interrupted by roaring water scooters making the lake their playground. Same same, but different. 🙂
when jet skiers with their roaring machines scooters take over the lake

Thank you, Meggie. I like everything you describe above, except for the noisy jet skiers. Sorry, but I have little tolerance for some outdoor activities.
Your description of your lakeview is very poetic. Maybe you want to make a blog post out of it?! 😊
All the best,
Tanja
