(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

Nature speaks more eloquently than words and here are more of its late September and October autumnal expressions, this time from the place where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains.

  1. Absolutely stunning!! The red leaves are especially beautiful; something we do not see much of here in Texas.
Thank you so much for sharing these photos!!

    • Thank you, Maria. I view the colors as nature’s parting gift before winter. We need to try to absorb as many as we can to last us through the winter (though that might be necessary where you live 😊).

      • Here it’s tropical all year ’round, but I’ve experienced autumn while living in Miami (but actually having to drive up north to see more colors). Still, Florida does not compare with a State like Colorado or other ones in North America which burst with color. However, autumn in the tropics is still felt. We do have some deciduous trees, but ‘perennial’ is the rule. ‘Perennial’ (perennis) in Latin meaning ‘through the years’.

      • While it’s always a little sad to watch the plants lose their leaves and petals and know that it will take months for them to return, I really like to live in a place that has different seasons (even though I might be quite envious of your lush, perennial vegetation come January 😊).

    • Thank you, Lisa.
Yes, you recognized one of the flowers: it’s Showy Milkweed, our most common species. Most of the pods have popped open and dispersed their silky, soft seeds by now. Let’s hope they will germinate next year and harbor many Monarchs. πŸ¦‹

  2. These are the sorts of sights I miss when autumn comes. Your photos capture the turning season beautifully. Not only are the images lovely, they evoke the smells and sounds of autumn that I miss equally.

    • Vielen Dank, liebe Maren.

      Tanja
