Nature speaks more eloquently than words and here are some wintry impressions (or expressions) from two different January visits to one of my favorite local destinations, Fountain Creek Regional Park, where Fountain Creek reigns supreme and showed itself from its fabulously frosty side.

Oh it looks so cold! But the ice forms are fascinating 🙂

Thank you, Liz. I love snow and ice and on the days of my visit, the temperatures were not that frigid. Luckily, the formations last for a while, even if the thermometer climbs above freezing for a short while.

Eiszeit.
Schön in der Natur.
Nicht schön zwischen Menschen.

These pics are gorgeous and brought a smile to my face, something that’s not easy to do these days. I especially like the one of the snow covered grassy slope, next to the water with the icy fringe hanging from it. 🤍❄️

Thank you, Julie. I’m so glad the images made you happy, at least for a little while. I can relate to your sense of sadness, I think the same is true for many of us who care about this world.
It was so enchanting to walk along the river and have it rimmed with this beautiful icy fringe. My heart was overflowing the entire time. 😊

Thank you, Brad. Fountain Creek Regional Park is a great destination for many reasons, including as one of El Paso County’s top birding hotspot. There is much to be discovered here.

When people think that they should stay indoors because of bone-chilling temperatures, nature prepares a spectacle of artistic beauty for the hardy among us to explore. Great photos, Tanja!

Thank you, Peter, your observation is absolutely right. I have rarely regretted bundling up to brave the elements because there is so much wintry beauty that I would otherwise miss.

As frigid as the weather is that you have to endure up there at this time of year, you get to experience wonderful ice forms in nature. The eighth picture seems an overview of some white ferny forest.

Thank you, Steve. I didn’t really have to endure uncomfortable conditions on the days I took these photos. I love taking winter walks, especially when the days are calm and the sun is out. Luckily, these formations last a while, even if the thermometer briefly climbs into the 30s or even 40s.
I hadn’t thought of a ferny forest when I took photo #8, but I like the mental image.

Beautiful captures of ice in its various forms. I love the movement in ice sculptures, it makes for stunning photos!
My first comment didn’t appear, I’m betting it’s in your spam. The WP elves are messing with me again.

Thank you, Tina. I have always admired ice formations. I’m sure they obey the laws of physics yet they seem so whimsical.
There was no comment in my spam folder, I’m not sure what happened. Sorry to hear that the WP gremlins are giving you a hard time.

Stay frosty Tanja! We are still trying to get accustomed to the single digit temps and snow here and missing those Texas temps (well, now that they are out of their cold spell).

Thank you, Brian. There has been plenty of frost and snow to enjoy. Luckily, very few days in the single digits, which are less enjoyable. I hope you will warm up, at the very least by traveling back in your mind to warmer days in Texas!

We get ice often enough, but it’s rarely as beautiful as this; coated highways and power lines are less poetic and intriguing. It’s easy to think of winter as simply cold: an unpleasant season to be endured. Your photos show how much more there is to appreciate.

Thank you, Linda. I agree–without the cold, we would be deprived of such marvelous creations. Their existence helps convince me to bundle up and go outdoors in winter.
